Drawstring Recall due to Strangulation Hazard
On May 8th, 2012, the CPSC issued a recall on
5 different styles of sweatshirts. These
sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood which poses a strangulation
hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines about the dangers
of neck or waist drawstrings in children's upper outerwear. In July 2011, the CPSC issued a federal
regulation regarding drawstrings. The
hazard from drawstrings is that they could become snagged or caught in small
spaces or vehicle doors, and thus pose an entanglement hazard.
Kid to Kid does not purchase items with drawstrings. We are committed to helping prevent children
from strangling or getting entangled on neck and waist drawstrings in upper
outerwear, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
If you have children’s clothing in your closets that have drawstrings in
the neck or waist, be sure to cut out the drawstrings to ensure your child’s
safety.
